Yakutsk master plan
Yakutsk is one of the oldest cities in Siberia with the most severe weather conditions on the planet. However, the locals always find unconventional solutions that allow them to adapt to the extreme climate while maintaining their identity.
Development paths
Yakutsk of the future is a comfortable city with a developed economy whose residents make discoveries, implement original projects and develop the local culture.
The key factor of development in the 21st century is communication. The more actively people in a large city interact with each other, the more their spheres of activity expand and modernize.
At the core of the developed master plan is the Yakut Way concept. It involves preserving local traditions and customs while introducing technology to improve the quality of life.
Population density is increasing, and each resident is getting additional opportunities to realize their own life scenario. A city that is compact, polycentric and multifunctional becomes convenient for work and well-adapted for economic development.
Current situation
Density of service infrastructure points
At present, there are no local centers of functional activity in the city. The density of service infrastructure is low even in the center.
At the same time, the densely populated districts (Oktyabrsky, Stroitelny, Saisarsky) are very monotonous and poorly saturated with functional activities.
Potential for transit pedestrian traffic
Residential areas are poorly connected to the center. It is difficult to get there on foot or by public transportation.
Functional routes are tied to transportation routes, but they are hard for pedestrians to use.
Pedestrian routes, for the most part, remain unused.
Pedestrian accessibility
The functional centers of the city are mostly accessible by transport, with travel taking at least 30 minutes.
The low density of the street and road network near the city center makes it inaccessible to pedestrians.
At the outer edges of the city there are areas capable of becoming strong local centers of urban activity.

Tourist logo
A tourist logo for the city was created as part of developing the master plan. The symbol can change, forming images required by the context. Yet all of them are about love: for the city, its history and nature.
City buildings
When developing guidelines for urban design, all buildings were divided into seven types. This makes the rules easier to systematize and implement.
Accent colors based on historic features were chosen for each urban district. Bright hues are used in building decoration, in art objects, as well as for painting the equipment of exposed heating facilities.
Heat networks
Exposed heat networks in Yakutsk run through all of the city’s districts. We propose to make them self-sufficient elements of the urban environment which do not ruin, but rather improve the space around them, creating a unique urban feature.
The most visible are pipes laid over driveways and pedestrian passageways. As the height of their installation decreases, so does the urban activity.
Laying of heat pipes on the ground, organization of recreation areas
Laying of heat pipes at a low height above the ground
Laying of heat pipes over fences and one-story buildings

Colors of the structures depend on the area. The master plan allows for use of multiple colors at area boundaries.
The developed master plan will help to systematically and consistently develop the city, achieving the necessary economic indicators, while making it beautiful and comfortable to live in.
