Landscaping concept for Ozero Dolgoe park in Norilsk
Ozero Dolgoe is a park in the very center of Norilsk. The ultra-modern Arctic Museum of Modern Art is also located here. To ensure both places coexist harmoniously and create a cohesive pleasant impression, we developed a landscaping concept for the park that takes into account the climatic and geological features of the region.
The concept is based on smooth lines that contrast with the surrounding typical buildings and bright accents—a tool to combat color starvation in the subarctic climate.
There are eight zones in total: the main event area, Arctic Living Rooms, a garden, a multifunctional space for events with a canopy, a café, a workout area, a rest area with play elements and a picnic zone. All of these are arranged to preserve existing pedestrian connections.
Swings
An important element of the entrance group is bright arches with swings. This is a flexible system of modules, so depending on the situation, it’s possible to combine swings for different numbers of people.
In summer, the structure creates pleasant shade, and in winter, it glows, adding coziness.
Café
The café, in the form of a large glass cube, is located under a large canopy covered with wooden slats. Around the perimeter of this “box” are huge arches of different sizes and irregular shapes. There’s also an open veranda where guests can hide from the sun in summer and from bad weather in winter.
Arctic Living Rooms
A separate area of the park called Arctic Living Rooms includes large, cozy benches with high backs made of colored slats, which create an additional visual accent and contrast with the rectangular buildings around.
Modular benches
The system of round and straight benches allows the space to be adapted for different purposes. The metal furniture elements are painted in bright colors.
Art object
Due to the water-saturated soil in the area, there is a special device for its thermal stabilization. We decided not to hide the structure but to include it in the overall ensemble with the help of bright coloring, turning it into an independent art object.
