The making of the Entrance door at the studio's Kiev office
The house where the studio’s Kiev office is located is old and protected by the state, so it’s important to show proper respect and care. We go to the city archive to study its history.
Finding an approved but not implemented project that dates back to 1995. Using it as a starting point.
Analyzing the Kiev and European—in particular, Italian—Art Nouveau architecture.
Making sketches.
Choosing doorhandles. Initially leaning towards brackets but ultimately deciding to go with round ones. The proper handles, heavy and made of aged brass, are in Italy. Our former colleague who now lives there buys them and sends to us.
The production process is complex: the size of the door leaves is impressive, there are a lot of oak parts and a special internal structure.
Goodbye, old door, you served your purpose but you didn’t bring any joy.
Removing everything: both the external metal door and the internal wooden one, the old fanlight and the inappropriate awning.
Starting the installation. It will be beautiful very soon.
Restoring the decorations surrounding the door on the façade.
Enjoying the result.
